A one-day job fair organised by Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (ELCOT) and National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) was held in Anna University here on Saturday.
The job fair was initiated by the state government in order to create an opportunity for the unemployed graduates to be placed in IT and ITES companies, who completed their graduation between 2009 and 2012.
According to K Purushothaman, Senior Director, NASSCOM – Tamil Nadu and Kerala, said, “There are seven IT and ITES companies, including Sutherland, AGS and Galaxy participating in this job fair. Around 3,000 students from different disciplines are attending. They will be recruited based on the performance in the written test, group discussions and personal interview”.
Minister of Information Technology Mukkur N Subramanian inaugurated the job fair. This is the first time that the government had conducted such a job fair along with NASSCOM.
When asked one of the recruiters about the capabilities of the candidates, he said, “They are quite satisfactory. Many of the candidates are suitable for non-voice based process. But when it comes to voice based process, we are expecting international standards, particularly in communication skills”.
A candidate, who just finished a round of test in a company said, “The registration process took much time. We became very tired as we had to stand in a queue for a long time. As for the selection is concerned, there were no problems with written tests and group discussions. But many found the personal interview tough. They also delayed in announcing our selection. So we couldn’t attend the interviews of other companies.”
