Bengaluru: Income Tax officials interrogated Congress MLA DK Shivakumar for over two hours on Thursday in connection with the alleged unaccounted cash and documents that were seized from his premises during the raid that were conducted in August 2017.
The I-T department went into overdrive by conducting raids in over 20 locations related to various actors and producers from the sandalwood industry on Thursday and didn’t spare the Congress leader either.
I-T officials went ahead and sent notices to DK Shivakumar’s mother Guaramma at her residence in Avalahalli in Kanakpura taluk around the same time while it was conducting raids across the city. Officials left the notice at the doorstep of the Congress leader's mother as she was not present then.
On learning of the notices, the Kanakpura MLA presented himself and his family at the I-T headquarters where a detailed inquiry of material seized was done. Officers also summoned industrialist Sachin Narayan, accused No. 2 in this particular case, who was then interrogated too.
Officials didn’t spare the minister any grace as questioning continued through the afternoon forcing DK Shivakumar to skip his lunch. Later, an aide of the minister was seen taking in some fruits into the room where he was being questioned.
DK Shivakumar in the past has insisted that this case is fabricated and has accused the centre of misusing organisation like the IT department for political vendetta. In November 2017, Shivakumar with his wife, mother and brother MP DK Suresh reached the IT department.
