BHUBANESWAR: A team from the Income Tax Directorate, Jamshedpur, on Monday raided offices of Rungta Mines in Bhubaneswar and Barbil besides Chaibasa in Jharkhand in connection with reported illegal mining activities by the company. The 15-member team from the Directorate (investigation) is headed by Assistant Director Smarak Swain. The team is reported to have seized incriminating documents, important papers and CDs from the offices. The raid was continuing on the regional office of the company at Barbil till last reports came in. The State Vigilance had also inquired into the alleged illegal mining activities of the company in Silijoda and Kalimati mines. The inquiry had revealed that the company extracted iron ore of over 2.64 lakh tonnes from 2003 to 2009 and dispatched 2.61 lakh tonnes. The approximate value of the iron ore dispatched illegally was about ` 57.61 crore.
