MALAPPURAM: Refuting the statements reportedly given by S P Ramdas Pothan and other police officers that the Muslim League leaders were behind the disturbances that resulted in the police firing in Kasargod, Muslim League general secretary K P A Majeed has said that the statements were given by the convicts to justify their fault.Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, he asked, if the League’s procession was taken out without prior sanction, why the officials did not file a case against the leaders.“The argument that the League itself tried to disturb the meeting to greet its leaders is unbelievable,” he said. These statements were included in a writ petition which was rejected by the High Court earlier. It is a rare practice where a Superintendent of Police gives a statement in a police station and an FIR is filed based on it, he said.Refuting the claims that the mob tried to attack the police officials, he asked why Shafeeq, who was killed in the firing was not listed as an attacker. On the allegations that the Muslim League tried to trigger a communal riot, he said that neither the special branch nor the police had filed any reports indicating chances of a communal riot in Malabar at that time.“All these make it a concocted story,” he said.Welcoming an impartial inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation, he said that Justice Nizar who headed the commission was a CPM supporter and that the League did not expect an impartial approach from him.Even if it was Pinarayi Vijayan, we would have agreed, since he has some humanistic values, he said. He also said that the Muslim League was ready to face any probe into the incident.
