HYDERABAD: The war of nerves between the Congress and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to gain steam when Speaker Nadendla Manohar begins the process of examining the resignations of 26 Jagan loyalist MLAs on Monday. They include 23 from the Congress, two from the TDP and one from the now-defunct PRP.First in the queue to meet the Speaker is rebel TDP member N Prasanna Kumar Reddy against whom disciplinary proceedings are pending. He is also among the 26 MLAs who have resigned.Congress leaders believe that a good number of Jagan loyalist legislators will develop cold feet and might not go anywhere near the Speaker’s office if there’s any indication that their resignations are going to be accepted. One reliable source in the Congress said, “The Speaker will probably accept resignations of those who care to meet him and seek their acceptance.Let us see how many will meet him.”As numbers too are important for the Congress, it may not like the acceptance of the resignations of all the legislators at once. All the same, it wants to turn up the heat on Jagan if all the 26 MLAs do not turn up to meet the Speaker, pointing out that they are not as faithful as he’s been trumpeting.Apart from the resignations of the 23 MLAs, disqualification petitions are pending against seven MLAs loyal to Jagan. They are Congress MLAs Konda Surekha (Parakal), G Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti), C Adinarayana Reddy (Jammalamadugu), A Amarnath Reddy (Rajampet), Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy (Allagadda), Y Balanagi Reddy (Mantralayam) and Prasanna Kumar Reddy (Kovur). As for suspended TDP legislator Nagam Janardhan Reddy and three other rebel TDP MLAs K Harishwar Reddy, S Venugopala Chary and J Ramanna who also submitted resignations for the Telangana cause on July 23, the Speaker has reserved his judgement. The Speaker, speaking to mediapersons on Friday, said none could influence his decision in respect of resignations submitted by the MLAs and that he would go by established conventions and rules while taking a decision.
