Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, who was made Chairman of Congress Committee for Implementation of Common Minimum Programme in Jharkhand recently, is visiting the state on Friday to chalk out a strategy for the alliance government. Congress is participating in the alliance government in the state headed by JMM's Hemant Soren.
The minister will be meeting the Chief Minister and his father and JMM chief Shibu Soren besides having consultations with with party leaders Gitashri Oraon and CLP leader Rajinder Prasad Singh separately to chalk out the plan of action for the alliance government.
Governance had been an issue in Jharkhand and Congress was earlier wary of supporting JMM to form a government owing to past experience of propping up Independent Madhu Koda as Chief Minister and the corruption cases thereafter.
However, sensing the necessity of alliances ahead of the next Lok Sabha polls, the party gave up its antagonism to JMM and had a tie-up with the tribal party. The programme implementation committee will see that development programmes are thoroughly implemented as Congress is keen to go to next Lok Sabha election on the plank of development.
Ramesh will be attending a programme organised by the state government on the occasion of World Indigenous Tribal Day, where the Soren duo would also be present, sources said. The committee is a follow-up to the Jharkhand Pradesh Coordination Committee of the party that was formed on Wednesday. Congress State President, CLP leader and AICC secretary will be the other members of the programme implementation committee.
Members from JMM and from RJD are yet to be included. The committee's membership is likely to be completed during the visit of Ramesh there. Hemant Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister on July 13 after the nearly six-month-long central rule was revoked in the state.
Congress got a lion's share --- 10 out of total 14 Lok Sabha seats --- in Jharkhand under the alliance agreement. The tie-up is not limited to Jharkhand only but four more states.
