Mumbai: Doyens of ghazals and bhajan respectively, Jagjit Singh and Anup Jalota come together in Deepak Vij’s film titled Maalik Ek.
“We have performed together in many shows. In fact, the last show was a month ago. I was composing this song Saare Jagat Mein Ek Hi Tu and the voice that kept drifting into my mind was of Jagjit Singh's,” said Jalota.
“Although we have sung in the same show we have never shared a stage. This is our first collaboration. I thought of Jagjit as this song required a lot of depth. Jagjit’s voice according to me was the only one, which could do justice to the song,” he added.
Penned by Sameer, Singh is believed to have turned quite emotional whilst recording the song. He refused payment for the song and wanted to act in the film.
Last seen on the silver screen in the film Dadagiri , playing the role of a street singer, Jalota is making a comeback in Maalik Ek, where he plays the role of a bhajan singer, Das Ganu, an ardent devoteee of Sai Baba.
Produced by Kishori Shahane, a popular Marathi actress, the film is being on a budget of Rs 3.5 crore.
Directed by Deepak Balraaj Vij of Sailaab fame, the film has Jackie Shroff playing the role of Sai Baba.
Divya Dutta, Rohini Hattangadi, and Zarina Wahab are some of the other big names in this film.
