Jayalalithaa sues Vijayakant

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday filed a criminal complaint against Vijayakant and editor, printer and publisher of The Hindu for the DMDK leader issuing a false statement and the daily carrying it in its issue dated August 1 last.

The complaint, filed by City Public Prosecutor M L Jagan, submitted that The Hindu published a news item headlined ‘Jayalalithaa running her government through statements, alleges Vijayakanth’, which was totally false and defamatory.

The CM was only staying in Kodanad for a certain period. She, however, discharged all her official and constitutional duties continuously, irrespective of her place of stay, even on Sundays and other holidays.

During the stay at Kodanad, she had cleared innumerable official files and ensured that all pending tasks were completed at the earliest. The allegation that she had taken a long break from office was totally unjustifiable, unreasonable and unsustainable. It indicated their malicious and oblique intention, the complaint, filed before the Principal Sessions Judge, added.
