BANGALORE: In a major robbery, a gang of three miscreants attacked a jewellery-making shop owner with lethal weapons and escaped with a bag containing gold and diamond ornaments. It is suspected that jewels worth more than `50 lakh has been robbed. The incident was reported near Lal Bagh West Gate on R V Road in Basavanagudi police station limits on Wednesday night.According to the police, Rajesh, owns the jewellery making shop in the second floor of a building near Lal Bagh West Gate and he resides about 50 metres away from his shop. Reportedly, he make jewels on contract basis for jewellery showrooms. At around 9.30 pm, after other workers had left the shop, he locked the shop and was walking down clutching a bag containing jewels. Meanwhile, three miscreants attacked him with lethal weapons and snatched away the bag and fled. Some passersby reported the matter to the police and shifted Rajesh, to a nearby hospital. One of the miscreants has abandoned the weapon on the spot. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the miscreants were conversing in Telugu and one of them is known to the victim, the police said.“The exact value of stolen jewels is yet to be ascertained. But the value will be over `50 lakh, as he was carrying more than two kg of jewels with him. However, the exact value will be known only after Rajesh makes a statement,” the police added. Rajesh is said to be in critical condition in the hospital. A case has been registered in Basavanagudi police station in connection with the incident.
