The former world No. 1 visited Pune as par of his plans to open a tennis academy.

Pune: Indian tennis could soon look to a new dimension all together, with the legendary Jimmy Connors planning a novel initiative in the country.

The former world No. 1 visited Pune on Wednesday as par of his plans to open a tennis academy in the city.

Connors was conducting an initial survey as he looks to buy land for his academy.

And if talks with his Indian counterparts click, the winner of eight Grand Slams singles titles and two Grand Slam doubles titles might soon start sharing his magical powers with Indian youngsters.

"I grew up with great players. One is Amritraj and the other is also Ramoji Krishnan. As in any country you have to give opportunity to play. Only then will you know who like it and who will take it to the next level," Connors said.

"The ultimate over here will be to find a Wimbledon or the next US Open champion. To get the kids get interested in and make them involved in a game that can be played for lifetime," he explained why he was setting up an academy in India.
