JMM bandh peaceful in Bengal districts
The 12-hour bandh called by a faction of JMM to protest the killing of Sunil Mahato was peaceful in many districts of West Bengal.

New Delhi: The 12-hour bandh called on Tuesday by a faction of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha to protest the killing of JMM MP Sunil Mahato was peaceful in Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore districts of West Bengal.

Official reports from these districts said shops were closed while private buses stayed off the roads.

In West Midnapore, the bandh affected only Belpahari and Lalgarh police station areas.

The bandh was called by President of the Shibu Soren faction of the JMM, Ajit Prosad Mahato.

The other faction is the JMM-Naren Hansda, which has its stronghold in West Midnapore district.

Mahato, two of his bodyguards and a party colleague were killed by Naxals at Bakuria town, 40 km from Jamshedpur, on Sunday.

The Lok Sabha MP from Jamshedpur and General Secretary of the JMM was watching a football match when he was shot dead.
