Have you ever jumped the signal to make way for the ambulance at the traffic signal? The Bengaluru city police issued you a challan for the same, for no fault of yours. The police have now assured you that your fine will be cancelled.
Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) MN Anuchet informed that if the fine challan has been received for those who jumped the traffic while making way for the ambulance, the passengers can visit the Traffic Management Center on Infantry Road and bring it to the attention of the staff there. “There are instances of fines being raised through cameras fitted in signals for jumping traffic while making way for an ambulance,” he said.
Also, such motorists can apply in this regard through the Karnataka State Police (KSP) application, as reported by the Times of India. He said that commuters can bring the matter to the attention of the traffic management centre on Infantry Road or raise a dispute through the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app.
“Commuters who have received such challans can visit us at the traffic management centre on Infantry Road and bring the matter to the notice of staff there. Alternatively, they can raise a dispute through the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app,” he added.
He assured that fines will be cancelled immediately if motorists are found jumping the signal to give way to an ambulance or standing at a zebra crossing to give way to an ambulance.
The traffic police have installed geofencing at 10 traffic signal junctions to identify GPS-equipped ambulances and automatically turn the signal green. As a pilot project, the Health and Welfare Department has installed GPS in around 80 ambulances that frequent 10 junctions.
“The camera will identify the ambulance when it is around 100 metres away. Once we are satisfied with the performance of AI, we will extend the facility to other traffic signal junctions,” he added.
