HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao warned on Sunday that if the central government continued to delay the process of creation of Telangana state, the region would witness a repeat of the 1969 situation.Speaking to reporters after participating in the Vanta-Varpu programme near his residence at Banjara Hills here, he said the was in the hands of the Congress leaders of the region. "If they resign, the Centre will be forced to create Telangana without much delay. They need not worry about losing their positions because the Centre, instead of accepting their resignations, will hasten bifurcation of the state.'' The TRS leader had a word of praise for the regional Congress leaders for going to Delhi and pressuring the government."I appreciate them for their efforts. But their efforts are not enough. The Centre will not heed them if they continue visiting Delhi frequently. They have a powerful weapon in their hands: resignation. If they wield the weapon, and use it, Telangana will be a reality within no time. If, for any reason, their resignations are accepted, the TRS and the TJAC will take the responsibility of ensuring their re-election in by-elections with a thumping majority. They need not worry about their political career.“Congress leaders' proposed Deeksha and other forms of protest will not help them achieve the goal. If they resign, Delhi will come to Hyderabad to settle the Telangana issue.Only sacrifices can get T state. If they delay state formation, they will be committing political suicide.I will meet the Congress MPs and MLAs and explain what they should do."The Union government made a statement in both Houses of Parliament which represents 125 crore people. Several international newspapers like New York Times published reports headlined ‘A New State Going to be Born in India'. If the government does not honour its December 9 statement, its credibility will be at stake.'' The TRS leader said that a large number people of the city registered their protest against delay on Telangana by participating in Vanta- Varpu.
