KOCHI:The Kerala High Court on Wednesday banned movement of vehicles other than the vehicles of the forest officials on the Fourth MileUppupara forest route to Sabarimala.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice K Surendra Mohan directed the police to ensure that the prohibition was enforced. The court asked the government to take urgent steps to put in place a disastermanagement plan on a war-footing.The court said that action would be taken against those officials who are found violating the order. The court ordered to ensure that there was no traffic congestion on the Vandiperiyar Sabarimala Road.The court issued the directive in a suo motu proceeding initiated in connection with the Pulmedu stampede which claimed the lives of 102 Sabarimala pilgrims on January 14, 2011.

The court said that it did not find any reason to permit private vehicles through the Fourth Mile Uppupara Road as it was not a tourist spot.
