KOCHI: The Kerala High Court today admitted appeals by suspected LeT militants T Naseer and Shafas, challenging the life imprisonment awarded to them by a special court here in the 2006 Kozhikode twin blast case, but refused to suspend their sentence.A division bench comprising Justices V Ramkumar and P Q Barkat Ali admitted the appeal and issued notice to the National Investigation Agency, which probed the case.Declining the petitioners' prayer to suspend the sentence, the bench said, "We are not satisfied that this is an extraordinary case for justifying the suspension of sentence in a case involving terrorism and conviction for offences punishable under IPC, Explosive Substances Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act."NIA Court judge S Vijay Kumar had on August 12 sentenced Naseer and Shafas to life imprisonment. Two policemen and a porter were injured in the bomb blasts, which occurred on March 3, 2006 at a KSRTC bus station and a nearby drain.
