KU, Warsaw University sign MoU

In a move that will promote Indo-Polish relations at non-governmental levels, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the University of Kerala (KU) and University of Warsaw (UW) on Thursday, here.

Calling for activities such as joint research projects and seminars, student and faculty exchange programmes, short-term academic programmes and joint cultural activities, the MoU is meant to establish “a formal understanding of cooperation and friendship” to “further the academic objectives of each institution and to promote better understanding between the faculty and students” of both universities.

“Negotiations have been going on for a year between the Political Science Department of KU and the Institute of International Relations of Warsaw University,” said Shaji Varkey, Head of the Department of Political Science on the Kariavattom campus of KU, who is the contact person at KU as per the MoU.

“We will engage in talks to decide what activities and projects can be taken up together. As of now, the MoU will be in force for three years.”

A seminar on ‘Evolution of India-EU relations: Indian and Polish perspectives’ was also organised as part of the day’s events. The speakers included associate professor of the Institute of International Relations, UW, Boguslaw Zaleski, academic teacher in the Institute Hanna Schreiber and UGC emeritus professor G Gopa Kumar, who spoke on the political, cultural and economic aspects of India’s relationship with the European Union.
