THIRUVANATHAPURAM: A host of cultural and art events would mark the first anniversary celebrations of Kurinji Cultural Forum which would be held at VJT Hall on Wednesday. The day is indeed big for Kala Gokuldas, classical dancer, who would be presenting the poems by ONV Kurup and Sugathakumari in Mohiniyattam format at the event. Kala, who has been running Bharath Widwath Mandal Natyakalari at Irinjalakkuda, would be presenting ONV’s ‘Amma’ and Sugathakumari’s ‘Evide Nee?’ at the inaugural function to be held in the evening. Kala, who has been a dancer for the last 20 years, is trained in Bharatanatyam (by Manoj), Mohiniyattam (learnt from Nirmala Panicker), Kuchipudi (from Anupama Mohan) and Keralanadanam (Vachaspathi Krishnakumar is her guru). It was in 2010 that she attempted choreographing poems in Mohiniyattam format and it will be the fourth time that she would be performing ‘Evide Nee’. “It deals with Radha looking around for Krishna in Brindavan. I first performed it at Koodalmanikyam temple during the temple festival in 2010,” Kala says. She had performed both the poems at Kodungallur early this year at a function organised to felicitate ONV when he won the Jnanpith honour. “Both ONV sir and Sugathakumari teacher were there. They appreciated my work,” Kala says. The music has been composed by Bijeesh Krishna of Thrissur. Kala had acted in ‘Vallithai’, a documentary made by P R Sreekumar of Kurinji Cultural Forum, which deals with the life and times of Vallithai, who along with her husband Balpandiyan, have dedicated their lives to take care of the birds at Koonthankulam bird sanctuary.
