MADURAI: Former DMK minister K N Nehru, arrested on land grabbing charges, was today granted conditional bail by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court in one of the cases against him.Justice C S Karnan also granted bail to Nehru's brother K N Ramajeyam and Tiruchirappalli Deputy Mayor Anbhazhagan in the case relating to alleged grabbing of land of one Srinivasan for building the DMK party office in Tiruchirappalli.This is the second case in which Nehru, fielded by the DMK for the October 13 Tiruchirappalli assembly by-election, has been granted bail. But he would continue to remain in prison as two more cases are pending against him.As part of the Jayalalithaa Government's crackdown on land grabbing, Police have registered a case against Nehru and others accusing them of forcing the family members of Srinivasan to sign the sale deed for the about 13,000 sq.ft of land for building the party office during the previous DMK regime.Granting them bail, Justice Karnan directed Nehru and Anbazhagan to stay in Tiruchirappalli and sign before the local Judicial Magistrate.This is the second case in which Nehru has secured bail.Earlier, he was granted conditional bail in the case relating to alleged grabbing of 9.5 acre of land near Tiruchirappalli airport. Besides Nehru, DMK MLA A Souondarapandian, former MLA Anbil Periyasamy and five others are co-accused in the case.A third land case was slapped against Nehru, his brother and nine others on September 22 on a complaint by Salamon, a resident of Azad Nagar in Tiruchirappalli, that his Rs 2.5 crore worth land had been grabbed by them some years ago.Besides, Nehru's bail application in a Vandalism case, in which he had been charged with damaging saint-poet Tiruvalluvar's statue two years ago, is pending before the high court bench here.
