The compensation was announced from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Chennai is slowly limping back to normalcy. The Airports Authority of India has said that Chennai airport, which has been shut since Monday, will start partial operations on Saturday. Banks will also remain open on Sunday in order to facilitate smooth financial transactions.
Massive rescue and relief operations are underway across the state. Tamil Nadu State Relief Officer has said that over 11 lakh people have been evacuated so far. In addition, power has been restored in most areas.
