KOCHI: The Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, emerged champions in the M G University Wrestling Championship under the male category.This is the first time in 27 years that the college has received the rare honour.The college won 23 points under eight categories.They were followed by St Joseph’s College, Moolamattam, with 19 points.“It is a rare honour for us.We got the prize after so many years of participation.We won the first position in four of the eight categories and got the second place under one category.In spite of the limitations of a government college, Maharaja’s was able to achieve victory in this championship because of the team spirit shown by the students and teachers alike,” said P T Sellan, Head of the Department of Physical Education, Maharaja’s college.After Kabbadi and Chess, this is the third championship in which the college has achieved success, this year.The team included Shihab Rehman C U, Muhammad Tanseer T S, Niyas M I, Briyan Andrews Paul, Abdul Rasheed P A, Rasheed B S and captain M R Rijesh.The team was coached by B Manjush.
