Mumbai: In a repeat of what happened in the HSC examination results, girls once again outshone boys in the SSC examinations. The results were announced on Wednesday and the passing percentage of girls was an impressive 82.96 per cent compared to 79.90 per cent for boys across the state.
In Pune division, the passing percentage for girls was 91.65 against the 89.92 pass percentage of their male counterparts. Girls in Kolhapur division bagged 90.11 per cent while for boys it was 88.41 per cent. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) announced the results of the Std X examination held in March for nine divisions.
Students who appeared from the newly formed Konkan division outdid the rest and managed to take first slot with the highest pass percentage of 93.94, followed by students from the city with 90.71per cent and Kolhapur at 89.17 per cent. Mumbai came in fourth with a total pass percentage of 88.94, while Latur stood at the bottom with 69.01 per cent.
“The state-wide percentage was 81.32 per cent, more than last year’s 76.06 per cent. We’re seeing an improvement every year,” said Sarjerao Jadhav, chairman, MSBSHSE. In the night school category, 2,369 students passed with 56.22 per cent. The overall percentage for the handicapped category was 77.63 per cent with 4,386 students passing.
The board announced that like last year, admissions this year will also be centralised and the process will take place in Fergusson College and other government recognised colleges, including Garware College and Wadia College, from today till June 28.
For ICSE and CBSE students, a centre has been set up at Laxmanrao Apte Prashala on Apte Road. CBSE students who appeared for school-based exams will not be given admission under CAP, but will have to apply to CBSE junior colleges. CBSE students who took the board exams will have to get their school’s stamp and principal’s signature on marksheets.
“As per a 2007 GR, only state board students who have shone in national and international sport events will get 25 marks extra. Students with merit in sports will get the 25 marks only if they require it for passing. From next year, students interested in taking up HSC science paper in Marathi will be allowed to do so,” Jadhav said.
The board has also announced that deaf, dumb, blind and physically handicapped students will get 20 marks as against 15, and also 20 minutes extra for the paper.
