MANJERI: Sand mafia attacked Malappuram Deputy Collector (election) V K Sundaran in Aanakkayam near Manjeri.He was about to seize a tipper lorry which was involved in sand smuggling.The driver of the tipper lorry hit the official vehicle of the Dy Collector and emptied the load of sand in front of the vehicle and drove off the spot.“We were trying to take records about the vehicles which are parked near an illegally operating sand ghat in Aanakkayam. There was nobody near the vehicle. Suddenly some people came and tried to drove away the vehicle, when we tried to block them they attacked us,” he said. Though nobody was injured in the incident some minor scratches appeared on the vehicle as a result of the collision with the tipper.There were Deputy Collector and two other officials in the vehicle when it is hit by the tipper.The police have seized another vehicle, which used for sand transporting from the spot.
