Islamabad: Pro-Taliban militants on Thursday set on fire five oil tankers during an attack on a terminal in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar that is used by convoys carrying supplies to US and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

About 40 militants armed with guns, rocket launchers and petrol bombs attacked the terminal on the outskirts of Peshawar before dawn, police said.

They resorted to indiscriminate firing before setting the tankers ablaze.

Fire brigade teams were rushed to the terminal to extinguish the fire. A security guard at the terminal was injured in the attack.

Militants have carried out a series of attacks on terminals in Peshawar used by US and NTO convoys since last year, destroying over 350 containers, trucks and armoured vehicles.
