BANGALORE: Milk suppliers to the Bangalore Diary will henceforth get Rs 2.60 more per litre of milk thus taking the total to Rs 20.60. In a press conference on Friday, Dr Lakshman Reddy, MD, BAMUL announced that this increase will be with immediate effect and was part of the plan for the recent hike in milk prices by Rs 3 for all Nandini Milk Variants. Bangalore Diary has its jurisdiction in Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban and Ramnagaram districts. After the hike, the prices of Nandini toned milk are now Rs 24 and curd is dearer by Rs 4 per litre. “This decision is to pass on the extra money generated by the price hike to the suppliers. We will retain 40 paise per litre for operating costs,” said Dr Reddy.Bangalore Diary currently procures approximately 10 lakh litres of milk everyday of which 8.65 lakh litres are supplied to the city, and the rest is used in ghee making and other allied processes. The officials also mentioned that the Hoskote Diary is functioning normally and stated that the budget of the New Plant in Bangalore Diary for which the Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone a few months back has been upped to Rs 25 Crore. On the topic of shops selling milk at prices higher than the cover price, Dibur Jayanna, BAMUL said that there is a team which exclusively conducts checks at all registered shops in order to ensure that overcharging does not occur. “Our phone number is printed on our product sachets. Customers can report overcharging to those numbers and we will initiate action,” he said. Dr Reddy added that action taken would include closure of shops or cancellation of licence to distribute KMF products.BAMUL also announced that for 2011-12 an amount of Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned for group insurance of cows. BAMUL currently has 1,843 societies registered with it with a base of 3.36 lakh suppliers. “There are plans to increase our storage capacity to 10 Lakh litres from the current six lakh,” added Dr Reddy.
