ANANTAPUR: A mine owner, who was sitting on his motorcycle while his bike was being refuelled at a petrol pump at Rayalacheruvu in Yadiki mandal, was abducted by a gang of four persons on Monday.On coming to know of the abduction of Krishnama Naidu, his wife Lakshmidevi called up former minister JC Diwakar Reddy, who is in Hyderabad, and sought his help.Reddy, who hails from Anantapur district, alerted district superintendent of police P Shahnawaz Qasim, who promptly dispatched special police parties to track down the kidnappers.Meanwhile, the kidnappers, realising that the police were on their trail, abandoned their captive near Dronachalam in Kurnool district and made good their escape.Police have information that followers of Kurnool TDP leader and former minister KE Krishna Murthy were involved in the kidnapping of Naidu who has mines in the Dronachalam area and applied for government’s permission for excavating iron ore in his mine.Krishna Murthy allegedly asked Naidu to give away the mine to him as it is located in his constituency, but Naidu refused to comply with the demand, leading to his kidnap.Kr i shna Mur thy , when contacted by reporters, said it was Diwakar Reddy who had engineered the abduction of Naidu but was now trying to blame it on him.Confounding the confusion, no case of kidnap had been registered at any police station in the district till evening nor was any official available to say anything on the incident.
