Bengaluru: A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide on Sunday in a village in Karnataka’s Vijapura district by setting herself ablaze. She was reportedly disturbed after being harassed by two men.

On Friday, the girl had complained to her mother that she was being constantly pursued romantically by two men. The mother had reportedly comforted her and assured that they will do something about it.

"I did not send her to school on Saturday. I told her we would discuss it with her father and buy her a cycle. The men were pursuing her romantically," said the girl's mother.

The girl allegedly set herself ablaze at her home on Sunday in the afternoon when none was home.

"The girl’s mother has said in the complaint that she committed suicide. We have registered a case under POCSO Act for eve teasing and abetment of suicide. The two accused have been arrested," Prakash Nigam, SP of Vijayapura told CNN-News18.

The accused have been identified as Chandu and Mohan, hailing from the girl's village.
