BANGALORE: To disprove myths that biodiesel is an inefficient fuel, a team of six men completed a road trip of around 4,000 km in 17 days on a vehicle that used green fuel. The team led by an engineer Avinash Narayanaswamy, left on June 6 from University of Agricultural Sciences premises here.
The team members proved wrong several theories such as existing engines, even with improvisations, cannot work on biofuel, filters and pipes need to be changed more often due to clogging, and one can never have the "feel" of driving or using diesel-fuelled vehicles. According to the team the vehicle had no problem, except for a clutch change.

"The drive between Bijapur and Gulbarga was carried out in under two hours with a stop for food. We reached 110 kilometres per hour and disproved anybody who argues with us about the performance of an engine using biodiesel," Avinash said.

"We also tried meeting members of the media everywhere so that more people know about this project and inform them about the possibility of using biodiesel, which is generated from overheated toxic edible oil and from nonedible oils available in several varieties of trees and plants in the country," Avinash said.

"A faculty member from TANUVAS informed us that the area bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala are being examined to set up plants and trees that have high oil content helpful for generating biodiesel in the coming days," he said.
