Several members cutting across the party lines in Jharkhand Assembly on Friday demanded action against the management of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) following Tuesday's police firing in Hazaribagh district that claimed a life.
Supporting BJP MLA Uma Shankar Akela's demand for an adjournment motion to debate on the July 23 firing incident that killed one person and wounded five others at Pagar village in Keredari block, several legislators held the management and the police responsible for the incident.
Ruling Congress MLA Saurabh Narayan Singh also held the senior officials, including the Managing Director of the PSU responsible for the incident and demanded their arrest.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has appointed a two-member team to probe into the incident and asked it to submit report within a week.
Police had fired eight rounds to control the irate villagers, who were protesting against construction of a field hostel of the NTPC after complaining that the PSU allegedly did not pay them the promised compensation.
