CHENNAI: “The grievances of residents of Anna Nagar West Extension will be resolved as soon as possible,” assured Villivakkam, MLA JCD Prabhakar and Ambattur MLA S Vedhachalam. They also promised that they would take necessary steps to extend the Metro line up to Mogappair. The Anna Nagar West Extension Association recently organised a function to felicitate the two MLAs and handed over a petition comprising 20 demands. Some of the key demands were repairing damaged roads, clearing encroachments off the footpaths, new routes for buses, construction of an indoor badminton stadium, a government hospital in the area and subway constructions at school zones.“With Chennai’s fast paced growth, our area is also developing quite fast. But new bus routes haven’t been introduced yet from Anna Nagar West bus stand to areas such as Poonamallee, Thiruvallur and Perambur,” said P Vadivel, the association secretary. While repairing the roads, new layers are laid above the existing layer resulting in the increase of the height of the roads, because of which rain water floods nearby houses. The MLAs said that they would inform the respective department officials about the problem and get it corrected as soon as possible.Federation of Chennai United Societal Services (FOCUSS) secretary Rajamohan brought up the issue of Metro Rail at the event. He said, “Metro Rail project for Mogappair was ignored by the previous government, reason being JJ Nagar’s location. Just because of the name, Metro Rail project was planned only till Thirumangalam. It has to be extended in this regime for the benefit of the people of this area.”MLA S Vedhachalam said, “I would definitely bring this matter to the Chief Minister’s notice. If the Metro line is extended till Mogappair, it would be helpful to the people of this area to commute without any difficulty.”
