New Delhi: In an act of hooliganism, a mob of 400-500 people claiming to be lawyers attacked Bharatiya Janata Party chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi's office in Krishna Nagar constituency of East Delhi on Monday. Three BJP workers Harihar, Kapil and Manoj were allegedly beaten up by the mob abd have been kept under observation in a nearby hospital.

The attack took place between 4:30 PM to 5 PM when Kiran Bedi was campaigning for Delhi Assembly elections.

A group of people wearing black coats used by lawyers but without a bow protested outside the party's office holding placards 'Kiran Bedi tum NGO chalao, shasan chalana tumhare bas ki baat nai', 'Kiran Bedi avsar vaadi hai, kursi ke liye pehni khadi hai' (Manage a NGO Kiran Bedi, you cannot be a ruler. Kiran Bedi is an opportunist and has donned khadi clothes for the chair).

BJP workers who witnessed the incident said the mob tried to enter the office and when some workers tried to stop them, they started beating them with sticks, stones in which three people were injured.

All the three have been admitted to th Monga Medical Centre. Dr VK Monga said, "All the three are seriously injured. Harihar and Manoj have undergone X-ray and CT scan. Harihar was beaten on head and Manoj has injuries all over the body. Kapil also has blunt injuries. Even as the vitals are fine, we cannot say anything before 24 hours as they have head injuries."

People in the mob were aged around 25-26 years and attacked about 50-60 party workers present in office.

Bedi condemned the incident and said, "It was absolutely unfortunate and it is not the right way to fight elections. Even though they tried to provoke our party workers but they did not react. This is the reason why civilised people are not joining politics."

Even though party workers are holding Aam Aadmi Party responsible for the violence, Bedi is silent on the allegations. "I don't want give any judgment. The case has been registered and all the evidence including CCTV footage has been handed over to police. The statement of the trio has been recorded," she said.

BJP MP Maheish Girri and OP Birla along with Bedi visited the injured. Security has also been beefed up in the high-profile constituency.
