MP government has transferred the Shivpuri district collector and has admitted the state failed to protect people from bandits.

New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh government has transferred Shivpuri district collector M Geeta and has admitted that the state has failed to protect people from the Gadariya gang.

The Gadaria gang is a group of bandits who lord over a large part of northern Madhya Pradesh.

M Geeta, in her letter to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had said that the administration could not guarantee the safety of foreign consultants and construction workers who were building the East-West corridor.

Italian consultants and workers working on the Shivpuri stretch of the East-West corridor had sought protection from the NHAI after the Gadaria brothers kidnapped three railway engineers from a nearby site.

The NHAI had written to the district administration and in response, the administration asked the NHAI to take help from CRPF personnel as it felt that the state had done all it could.

The district collector's letter brought embarrassment to the state government as Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways T R Balu took up the matter with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

The MP government had once declared dacoit Ram Babu Gadaria dead and had also promoted an officer for killing him, only to find out that he was alive.

Ram Babu Gadaria and his gang are behind the recent kidnappings in the state.
