CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has acquitted three persons, relatives of a rape and murder victim, of charges of attempting to murder a soldier, who was accused of raping the girl and murdering her.Justice S Palanivelu, setting aside an order of the Fast Track Court, which imposed seven years RI on the three, said the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the accused and hence the conviction and sentence imposed on them were liable to be set aside.In Jan 1993, A Sankaran, a soldier, was charged with raping a 13-year-girl. With her hands tied and gagged, she was found dead in a village well the next day. In Jan 1994, when Sankaran returned to Nayaganaipiriyal in Ariyalur district, he was allegedly assaulted by five persons including the girl’s father Paramasivam and uncle Selvam.
