Murder of businessman: Police groping in the dark

Even after 48 hours, Kozhikode police are yet to make any breakthrough in the murder of city-based businessman P P Nazeer Ahammed, who was found dead on the roadside at Chevarambalam early on Saturday.

Sources revealed that investigation is underway based on information by locals that a gang of six men who arrived in a red car was involved in the incident.

Police have secured the whereabouts of red-coloured Omni vans from the Motor Vehicles Department but are still clueless about the vehicle. Close relatives of Nazeer Ahammed, who are yet to come to terms with the shocking incident,  could not provide any significant information to the investigators.

According to them, Nazeer had been active with various activities of Malabar Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club and had no foes. Moreover, investigators could not figure out the exact reason behind Nazeer’s visit to Chevayoor. Sources said even his relatives and friends are totally unaware about the visit and he used to return home late night.

Top sources, however, revealed that investigators did not completely rule out the “moral policing” angle in the murder. By collecting the call details on the two mobile phones of Nazeer, the probe team has learnt to have shortlisted certain numbers and is conducting a comprehensive analysis.

Meanwhile, Nazeer’s mortal remains were interred after prayer at Shadhuli Mosque at Francis Road on Sunday morning.

Nazeer, a native of Kallayi who was elected as the Secretary of the Malabar Chamber of Commerce on Friday, was smothered to death and his body was found dumped at Pachakkal junction along the Malaparamba bypass-Chevarambalam stretch.
