Chief mentor of Infosys, N R Narayana Murthy has accepted the government's offer to head the state vision group on IT.

Bangalore: In what is seen as a major moral boost to the information sector in Karnataka, software icon and chief mentor of Infosys, N R Narayana Murthy has accepted the government's offer to head the state vision group on IT and provide guidance to the sector in the state.

"I am grateful to you for inviting me to Chair the state vision group. It will be both a privilege and pleasure to do so," Murthy said in a letter dated August 26 to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Kumaraswamy in August said Murthy would firm up a roadmap for Karnataka in the knowledge sector, adding, the latter already had a session with senior officers of the state in this context.

Murthy retired from executive positions at Bangalore-headquartered, NASDAQ-listed firm on August 20, when he turned 60.

He is, however, serving the company as non-executive chairman, and continues to hold the post of its chief mentor.

Kumaraswamy has stated in the past that "surely, a talent like his (Murthy's) cannot be allowed to remain untapped (after his retirement from Infosys)," and his intention was to use the services of the software icon so that his government can be suitably advised about addressing issues of the IT sector.
