The scholars have stressed on how Islam teaches tolerance. They cited verses from the Quran to counter ISIS claims about Islam and said the terror group is corrupting the Prophet's teachings.
The petitioners wrote to the United Nations that they want the fatwa treated as a message to world. Islamic Defence Cyber Cell Head AR Anjaria also wrote to envoys of several countries.
"These people are killing in the name of Islam, they have no relation with Islam they are not true to Islam," the fatwa said.
