Nadia death case: ex-minister to move HC for bail
Goa's former tourism minister, Francisco 'Mickey' Pacheco, is a suspect in the death of his friend Nadia Torrado.

Panaji: Goa’s former tourism Minister, Francisco ‘Mickey’ Pacheco, a suspect in the death of his friend Nadia Torrado, is expected to move the High Court for bail -- this after a Goa sessions court rejected his bail plea on Thursday.

Pacheco's close associate Lyndon Monteiro, who also has been denied bail in the same case, alleges the state government is trying to frame him and Pacheco in Nadia's death to settle scores.

Monteiro's anticipatory bail plea hearing has been postponed to Monday.

An FIR has been filed against Pacheco accusing him of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304, abetment to suicide under 306 and destruction of evidence.

Both men are still on the run under section 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police sources say Pacheco along with Nadia's family destroyed crucial evidence in this case. Nadia's mother was questioned by the Crime Branch.

Nadia died on May 30 after being treated for almost 15 days in hospitals at Mumbai and Chennai.

Nadia's family members have been maintaining that she took rat poison mistaking it for a tooth paste on May 15.

While Crime Branch has continued interrogation of Nadia's mother Sonia and her estranged husband Wilson Barretto, the extensive search is going on to trace Pacheco and Monteiro, who are currently hiding from police.

The investigation in this case, which initially began as a probe of attempted suicide, has revealed that the woman was beaten up before she took poison.

The postmortem report conducted by Chennai hospital on Nadia's body has revealed that there were two serious injuries, possibly by blunt object, on her body.
