THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of various academic initiatives during the ongoing academic year, the Government Law College here is organising a National Colloquium on ‘Legal and justice education: The future and planning’ from March 8 to 10.  The plenary session of the meet on Saturday will be marked by the felicitation of judges from the College alumni at a programme titled ‘Inheriting the wisdom of ages’. National Judicial Academy director Dr K N Chandrasekhara Pillai will inaugurate the Colloquium on Thursday at 2.30 pm. Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies director Dr G Mohan Gopal will deliver the keynote address. Friday will be noted for symposiums in the forenoon on ‘Academic legal education and socio-legal research’ and ‘Professional legal education and advocacy training’, which will be inaugurated by Dr M C Valson (NUALS, Cochin) and Manjeri C Sreedharan Nair (Chairman, Bar Council of Kerala) respectively. M Raman Kutty (chairman, Legal Education Committee) will initiate discussions on , ‘General and informal legal education-clinical legal services’, in the afternoon session. A symposium on ‘Juristic education and justice administration’ will be held on Saturday morning. It will be inaugurated by  former High Court judge M R Hariharan Nair. Justice Cyriac Joseph, former Supreme Court judge, will deliver the valedictory address at the plenary session of the three-day conclave. Dr N K Jayakumar, Vice- Chancellor, NUALS, Kochi, will preside over the function. Jurists S Sirijagan, T R Ramachandran Nair, Haroon Ul Rasheed, V Chidambaresh, K M Shaffique and A V Ramakrishna Pillai, all sitting judges of the Kerala High Court and alumni of the Government Law College here, will be felicitated as guests of honour on the occasion. College principal Dr S Usha will welcome the gathering and Prof A Suhruth Kumar, organising committee convenor, will propose the vote of thanks.
