A naxal was on Monday arrested from Maoist-hit Bijapur district of southern Chhattisgarh, police said. The cadre was nabbed by a joint team of district force and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) from the forests of Awapalli police station area, a senior official told PTI.

The arrested naxalite has been identified as Yalam Dharma, an active member of Awapalli Janmilitia group of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), the official said.

The patrol party was on a combing operation in the Aawaplli area, which lies over 400 kms from the state capital Raipur, when it nabbed Dharma on suspicion, the official said.

He has admitted of being involved in the movement, the official said, adding the naxal was also a part of serious crimes like murder, attempt to murder, dacoit etc in the region.
