BHUBANESWAR: Members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday expressed concern in the Assembly over the neglect of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal districts by the State Government. NCP members Nabin Nanda and Ramchandra Hansdah had also shown placards raising the issue while Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei presented the budget on Friday. Later they walked out. Raising the issue on Saturday, NCP Legislature Party leader Amar Prasad Satpathy said this has given rise to regional imbalance in the State. While 11 coastal districts are getting special assistance through Gopabandhu Grameen Yojana, the State Government launched Biju Kandhamal and Biju Gajapati yojanas. The undivided KBK districts have been taken care of through many schemes launched by the Centre as well as the State governments while Western Odisha districts get special assistance through the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC). Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal are the only districts which do not get any special assistance, he said. Satpathy demanded a special package for three districts as it has shown a surplus of ` 2,410 crore in the budget. Supporting Satpathy, BJD member from Dhenkanal Prafulla Kumar Mallik also demanded special financial assistance for the three districts.
