He has often been accused of going overboard marketing his films. Each time Shah Rukh Khan, Badshah of Bollywood, comes up with a new marketing strategy during his films' release. The actor recently appeared in a satire video which had him playing himself taking 'not' so politically correct questions from a journalist. Needless to say, the video went viral.
Was it yet another way of promoting his new film? "I think I have a sense humour but unfortunately I am at such a place where I can't make such funny yet politically incorrect statements. When Arunabh (the man behind the video) approached me I liked the idea and said yes not because it would help in promoting my film but it appeared to be a funny idea. Not many know that he started his career by assisting Farah Khan in OSO- so now you know where he got his sense of humour from" said the actor.
Has Khan now started using social media a lot more to reach a wider audience? "I think it's unfair to use the term 'marketing' in this platform. Social media is a good space to be in. Even though it has a limited reach but it still creates an impact. As actors we are often misquoted, wrong news spreads- social media allows you to speak to your audience directly which I think is great. We get direct and instant feedback on our films. For me its a personal space. I have never used it to for marketing purpose," clarified Khan.
Knowing that he has several critics on the platform as well, the witty star said "Whenever I want to feel humbled, I log in. There are enough haters for me there. They put me in my place."
Khan along with director Farah Khan and his co-stars were in the capital to promote 'Happy New Year' which will be releasing in theaters on 24 October.
Refusing to talk about the exact budget of the film, Khan said, "Yes, its a big budget film. But the canvas of the film is huge so it was required to be a big budget."
