Not an absconder, did not flee from India, Vijay Mallya refutes charges against him
Mallya said he fully respects the law of the land and will comply with it.

Refuting all allegations against him of fleeing out of India, beleaguered businessman Vijay Mallya lashed out at his critics. Terming reports against him as "rubbish", he claimed that he is a businessman and travels out of India frequently. "I am an international businessman. I travel to and from India frequently. I did not flee from India and neither am I an absconder. Rubbish," he tweeted.

The former liquor baron, who is facing legal proceedings for alleged loan defaults by his group to the tune of over Rs 9,000 crore, also said that he has faith in the judiciary. "As an Indian MP, I fully respect and will comply with the law of the land. Our judicial system is sound and respected. But no trial by media," he added.

"Let media bosses not forget help, favours, accommodation that I have provided over several years which are documented. Now lies to gain TRP? News reports that I must declare my assets. Does that mean that Banks did not know my assets or look at my Parliamentary disclosures? Once a media witch hunt starts it escalates into a raging fire where truth and facts are burnt to ashes," he asserted.

Meanwhile, CNN-IBN has exclusively accessed information which showed that the original lookout notice by the Central Bureau of Investigation wanted immigration authorities to detain the multi-million loan defaulter if he tried to leave the country.

That notice was issued in October 2015. Then in a stunning U-turn a month later on November 23, the notice was modified to say that his detention was not required.

The original lookout notice was issued on October 12, 2015 vide DPBSM/2015/724/RCNSM 2015 E 0006. The amended one was issued on November 23, 2015, vide letter number 1049/RCBSM/2015/E0006.

Mallya, according to sources, left for London by the 9W122 Delhi-London Jet Airways flight at 12.54 pm on March 2, days before a consortium of banks approached the Supreme Court for his passport to be impounded.

Principal opposition Congress has been accusing the government of being party to the "criminal conspiracy" that helped Mallya escape and demanded action against the banks who sanctioned loans when he faced crippling debt.

Mallya is facing legal proceedings for alleged loan defaults by his group to the tune of over Rs 9000 crore.
