A group of NRI hoteliers led by Sant Chatwal has decided to bid at the auction on March 5 for Gandhi's belongings. They say they hope to win the lot and gift it to the Indian Government.

Sant Chatwal: We are about eight to 10 friends and they all asked me to go to the auction and bid for Mahatma Gandhi's artefacts.

CNN-IBN: If you buy them back, will you be giving them back to India?

Sant Chatwal: Absolutely. The aim is that no one else should buy it, only an Indian should buy it. The purpose is to buy it and send it back home.

CNN-IBN: Right now, the estimate that they have is between $20,000 and $30,000 for this lot. How high will you be willing to go?

Sant Chatwal: Well, we'll see how the auction goes. You never know. This is the auction's own line. I would like to go maybe up to a quarter of a million dollars. It's not big money especially if you want to buy it and send it back to our country, India.

What's your reaction?
