New Delhi: United States President Barack Obama on Sunday evening started his address at the joint statement meet in Hindi. "Namaste! Pyar bhara namaskar," said the US President who is on a three-day visit to India.
The US President also extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting a personal tea for him. "Thank you for hosting 'Chai pe charcha'," said Obama in his address to media.
The press meet witnessed a number of light moments between PM Modi and the US President. While PM Modi addressed the US President by his first name, Barack, the guest expressed his pleasure for being invited to witness the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
Answering to a question about the personal relation shared by the two leaders, PM Modi said, "My personal ties with Barack has not only brought Delhi and Washington closer, it has also brought people of both countries closer. We talk to each other freely and crack jokes."
Earlier on Sunday, in a first of its kind meet by PM Modi, he along with US President held a 'chai pe charcha' in the gardens of Hyderabad House. The two leaders earlier met for a working lunch and held discussions on a series of issues including civil nuclear deal between the two countries.
The talks over tea was seen as a reflection of increasing bonhomie between the two leaders. The Prime Minister was seen pouring tea for President Obama and handing it over to him.
