OIL STRIKE OFF; DEORA SAYS FUEL CRUNCH ENDING
Officers of state-owned oil companies succumb to govt pressure.

New Delhi: The three-day old strike by officers of state-owned oil companies ended on Friday with all unions returning to work.

Officers of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Gas Authority of India Ltd (Ltd) are returning to work. The officers of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd had called off their strike a little earlier in the day.

The strike, which disrupted fuel supplies across the country, was called off, after government threatened to arrest and dismiss officers.

The strike was called off by executives of individual oil and gas companies one after the other, as the government talked tough and ruled out conceding any of their demands for higher wages while they held the country to ransom.

Union minister for oil and petroleum Murli Deora has said that oil refineries are expected to be up and functioning by Friday evening. He added that 80 per cent of petrol pumps in the Metro cities would be filled by 2000 hrs IST.
