KOCHI: The Kochi police have booked many offenders during Onam season. The women shadow wing have taken into custody about 60 people from shopping malls, KSRTC bus stand, railway stations, Marine Drive walkway and different parks across the city for eve teasing and similar charges. The shadow police also arrested 10 people for disturbing women in private buses during the Onam rush.The city police deployed four special squads under Special Branch Assistant Commissioner M N Ramesh. during Onam. The squad has four SIs, 100 policemen and 50 women police officials.The police took 10 people into custody for taking seats reserved for women in buses while two migrant labourers were arrested for clicking pictures of women without their consent. The shadow police captured 15 eve teasers from various theatres. For drinking in public places 280 people were taken into custody while 20 were arrested after they were found in suspicious circumstances. The shadow police registered a total of 180 cases during the past one week for various charges related to autorickshaws which include operating without licence, over charging and refusing to operate. The police have also taken two people into custody in connection with immoral activities. The police have also strengthened action against goons, drug peddlers, mafia groups, pickpockets and other anti-social activities, said City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar. Recently the special squads have come across mafia groups involved in threatening street vendors. The city police have started special measures to curb atrocities against women in city. Special women’s shadow wing has been deployed . Cameras have been installed at all important locations to monitor crime-related activities, In the coming days, police will tighten security measures for women across the city, the police said.
