HYDERABAD: The Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) made a bid on Friday to disrupt the Telugu Desam’s Mahanadu programme at Gandipet but were allegedly thrashed by party activists. In retaliation, suspected OUJAC students attacked the Reliance Fresh outlet at Vidyanagar and vandalised the premises.The OUJAC had reportedly threatened to disrupt the Mahanadu demanding the TDP to spell their stand on a separate Telangana. A huge posse of policemen were deployed at the venue, anticipating trouble from pro-Telangana activists.Around 11.30 a.m, nearly 10 OU students reportedly from the C-hostel, made a vain attempt to force their way into the venue. As they tried to enter raising slogans of Jai Telangana, TDP activists allegedly beat them up. Before police could enter the scene, the students were thrashed by TDP activists causing injuries to some. Police then intervened and chased away the students. “Two students were caught while the remaining fled. The duo were taken into preventive custody and later let off,” Moinabad police inspector G Sekhar Goud said.Hours after the attack, students attacked the Heritage Fresh outlet, owned by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s family at vidyanagar. According to police, nearly seven to eight students barged into the outlet and damaged its glass panes, refrigerators and other articles in the store. The students fled away before police reached there.Meanwhile, security at the OU campus has been increased to prevent any flare-up of agitations.
