BALASORE: Over hundred persons, including children, were admitted to different hospitals in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts on Sunday after they were taken ill due to alleged food poisoning. At least 52 persons are undergoing treatment at Jamalpur, Hatigarh and Paunsakuli PHCs in Jaleswar block in Balasore district, while 24 are admitted in Badasahi hospital and another 30 at Bijatala PHC in Mayurbhanj district.Sources said nearly 132 students of Gadasahi-Baliapal fell ill after they had partaken of prasad made of flattened rice. They complained of stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. They were soon rushed to nearby hospitals and administered saline. While most of them were discharged after treatment, 35 are still undergoing treatment. Villagers said the students had the prasad on Thursday on the occasion of Ganesh puja. “But they suffered from diarrhoea and food poisoning after two days. Though they were complaining of stomach ache and nausea the following day, their condition aggravated on Saturday,” said Madhu Behera, a resident. Jaleswar MLA Debi Prasanna Chand, Tehsildar Bijayini Biswal and ADMO Mamata Sahu visited the affected, while a team of doctors have been camping in the village. Food sample has been collected and sent for test.Similarly, about 60 children and local villagers in Mayurbhanj district were taken ill after they had cooked prasad.In another incident, over a hundred in Gajadihi village under Badasahi block fell ill after they had allegedly consumed poisonous mushroom. They were rushed to the nearby hospital. While 24 persons are still undergoing treatment, the rest were discharged after treatment.
