HYDERABAD: Close to 500 staff members have applied for mass casual leave across three campuses of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies. Their demands include declaring their tenures permanent and a pay hike as well as provision for subsidised housing by the university.
The indefinite strike called by the members of the staff association in Nuzvid, Basar and Idupulapaya is likely to effect the students of PreUniversity Course (PUC), equivalent to Intermediate, at the institute. Nearly 2000 PUC students are enrolled in each campus of RGUKT, which runs a 6year integrated B.Tech programme mainly for students hailing from rural areas."The recent set of demands was tabled before the administration nearly a month ago and we received a notice from the staff informing us of the strike on October 25," said Professor RV Raja Kumar, vicechancellor of RGUKT. The staff members on strike include mentors and home room tutors (HRT) hired on a contract basis. Close to 250 mentors and 200 HRTs are currently employed by the university.
