Islamabad: A France-based Pakistani woman has been selected to join a US commercial space flight in 2008.
Namira Salim, a Pakistani artiste based in southern France said that she had been chosen by the US firm Virgin Galactic for its commercial space flight in 2008.
She said that she was the first person from this region to enroll for a private space flight.
"Today I look forward to realise my vision with Virgin Galactic which is the only company in the world with a safe and tested prototype of a private spacecraft," she said on Thursday at a press conference arranged by Pakistan government, where she was introduced as 'First Pakistani
Astronaut.'
Virgin Galactic selected Salim for its exclusive Founders' Club--first 100 people for the flight.
As a founding member, she will be the first Pakistani to join the mission when commercial operations to promote spare tourism commence in July 2008.
She said that her art works have been exhibited during top humanitarian summits at the United Nations, UNESCO and during the SAARC Summit in Pakistan two years ago.
