New Delhi: Pakistan has agreed to release 27 Indian trucks which were detained in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) almost three weeks after the incident, sources said on Wednesday.

Authorities in PoK had detained the drivers and their trucks carrying goods from India to demand the release of their trucks and drivers detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly carrying narcotics worth Rs 100 crore.

The face-off started after the detention of Pakistani trucks which crossed the border as part of the cross-LoC trade with around 100 kg brown sugar. The drugs was seized at Salamabad trade facilitation centre in Uri.

Baramulla Deputy Commissioner GA Khwaja had said that the law would take its course in respect of the drivers and the vehicles detained in connection with the recovery of brown sugar.

"We will convey to the authorities on the other side not to press with their demand as the law will have to be followed. An illegal act has taken place," he added.

As many as 114 packets of brown sugar were recovered from the truck from PoK. The total weight of the seized contraband was around 100 kgs which is worth nearly Rs 100 crore in the international market, Uri Sub-Divisional Police Officer Govind Ratan said.
